【摘要】:Thistestmethodfordeterminingfinenessofcleanedflaxfibersisconsideredsatisfactoryforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipmentswhenthelevelsarecontrolledbyuseofarangeofcalibrationstandards.Iftherearedifferencesofpracticalsignificancebetweenreportedtestresultsfortwoormorelaboratories,comparativetestsshouldbeperformedbythoselaboratoriestodetermineifthereisastatisticalbiasbetweenthem,usingcompetentstatisticalassistance.Asaminimum,usetestsamplesthatareashomogenousaspossible,aredrawnfromthematerialfromwhichthedisparatetestresultswereobtained,andarerandomlyassignedinequalnumberstoeachlaboratoryfortesting.Thesetestresultsfromthetwolaboratoriesshouldbecomparedusingastatisticaltestforunpaireddata,ataprobabilitylevelchosenpriortothetestingseries.Ifabiasisfound,eitheritscausemustbefoundandcorrected,orfuturetestresultsforthatmaterialmustbeadjustedinconsiderationoftheknownbias.Theresistancethataplugofflaxfibersofferstotheflowofairismeasuredasanapproximateindicationoftheaveragerelativefinenessofthefibers.Thetotalsurfaceareaoffinerfibershasalargerperunitmassandincreasedresistancetoairflowthandocoarserfibers.Instrumentsareavailabletoindicatetheresistancetoairflowusingeithercompressedairoravacuum;andareconstructed(1)tomeasureairflowunderconstantpressuredropacrosstheplug,(2)tomeasurepressuredropwhenaconstantflowofairismaintained,or(3)toindicateresistancetoairflowfrombothabalancedandunbalancedWheatstonebridge.Thereliabilityoftheresultsofanytestmethoddependsprimarilyuponhowwellthespecimenstestedrepresenttheoriginalsourcematerial.Flaxfibersaredifferentfrommanytextilefibers,suchascottonorsyntheticones,inthattheyarenotindividualfilamentsbutbundlesoffibrousmaterialthatmayormaynotbecompletelyseparatedintoindividualfilamentsandthereforehaveahighdegreeofvariability.Whilecleaningandprocessingcanproduceseparationandchangesinlength,thereisnocertaintyoffibrillationofthefibrousmaterial.Note38212;Amodificationofthistestmethodcanbeusedincommercialtradingtoselectbalesthatwillconformtocontractguaranteesforspecifiedspecificsurfaceindex.Forthispurpose,theusualpracticetotestonlyonespecimenpersample.Thisspecificsurfaceindexreadingisrelatedtotheaveragelineardensityofsinglefibersinabundlecalculatedfrommassandlengthmeasurementsonthebundleandthenumberofsinglefibersinthebundle.Thespecificsurfaceindexofflaxfibersmaybeafunctionoffineness,degreeofretting,cleanliness,variety,bundleseparation,andplantmaturityharvestdate.Thisfinenessofflaxfibersaffectstheirmillprocessingandspinningperformanceaswellascontributessignificantlytotheappearanceandstrengthoftheyarnsproduced.Theaccuracyofweighingcanbecontrolledbythenumberoffiberscomposingthebundle.However,withshortfiberoflowlineardensitythenumberoffiberstobecountedbecomesprohibitiveunlessthebundlemassiskeptlow.1.1Thistestmethodprovidestwooptionsthatcoverthedeterminationofthefinenessofcleanlooseflaxfibersby:Option1,measuringthespecificsurfaceareabytheresistanceofaplugofflaxfiberstoairflowunderprescribedconditions,orOption2,estimatingthemassperunitlength.Note18212;ForothermethodsfordeterminingthefinenessoffibersrefertoAppendixX1.1.2Thevaluesstated......
